Harold Russell, Disabled WW II Veteran, Disability Employment Advocate, Two-Time Academy Award Winner ("1946 Best Supporting Actor - Best Years of Our Lives"), Three time National Commander of AMVETS' and Chairman of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities from 1963 to 1989 (appointed by President Johnson). He died of a heart attack on January 29, 2002 in Needham, Massachusetts.
Harold Russell, who lost both his arms in WWII, was the principal national veteran leader who advocated the establishment of the HUD Veteran Resource Center (HUDVET)and actively supported many of HUD's Homeless efforts, especially the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Boston.
